Overseeding your Lawn
An easy way to fill in the bare spots in your lawn is by Overseeding. Overseeding is planting grass seed on top of your current lawn, no destroying the soil or weeks of killing your yard. Overseeding also adds grass density to your lawn, and it’s a great time to incorporate some color by introducing other grasses. Adding a nice mix of grass seed can provide a multitude of benefits.
Older yards are often good candidates for overseeding, the home you purchased when you moved to Mooresville, may not have the grass you prefer or what suits your needs. Overseeding is an excellent way to improve your current lawns status. Overseeding with new turfgrass also helps with insects, disease, drought, shady conditions and heavy traffic. Overseeding can reduce the amount of annual fertilizer needed and save you money in the process, AND you lawn will look much better for the summer!
Aerating prior to overseeding is always recommended, aerating opens up your lawn for the seed and oxygen it needs to help the grass grow better. You can borrow or rent a good aerator, make sure it is of good quality and will insert the holes 2 or 3 inches apart.
Another good suggestion is to aerate and overseed before a good rain shower is forecasted. Irrigation systems work well, but nothing beats Mother Nature.
