The beauty of outdoor lighting extends far beyond the holiday seasons, many people only utilize the beauty of outdoor lighting in November & December, and this could easily be a waste for the other 10 months of the year. My suggestion is to incorporate low voltage LED lighting to the walkways, and outdoor entertainment areas for better visibility, beauty and then decorate with more lights (possibly colored or a theme) for the holidays.
Security should always be in the forefront for our families and homes, nothing is more important to me than my family and I spare no expense for their safety. Outdoor lighting adds marginal security measures to a home; research shows that well lit homes (outdoor lighting) are targeted by criminals much less than dimly lit homes. Most insurance policies provide a discount for added security measures, check with your agent to see if you qualify.
The value of lighting is measured more during this time of year than during the Daylight Savings Time zones. It is measurably darker during the winter than the summer, the sun and moon are farther away so it only makes sense. Everyone mentions (complains) about leaving for work in the dark and returning in the dark this time of year, not with outdoor lighting!
